Saving the world

Because I get sick of this world because nature is being destroyed all the time, I'll decided to start working as a hobby to save this planet. I have few ways in my mind how to do it, and I'll tell here more about them later. Feeling better already though, which is nice.

Getting sick to this world

I'm absolutely fed up with this world order. Principles or morality has not power anymore, money has taken all the power. Advertising agencies are controlled by money driven people, who don't give value to nothing but customers money. IM SO SICK OF THIS!

I just can't take it anymore. In every two months I began to feel sick about this world, when I see advertisements, low quality products, smiling mannequins, see how nature is being destroyed all the time, notice how selfish people are...

I must do something, I can't live in this world where we are living.

Going to school... where are my keys?

I was going to school, but now I can't find my keys anywhere. And I know for sure that they are here somewhere. So today I keep holiday from school and clean up this mess a bit.

What Not-To-Do to TI-89 Titanium scientific calculator

I have Texas Instruments 89 Titanium calculator (TI-89 Titanium), and I just found out what not to do with it. Don't drop it to floor or step over it. Even it feels quite solid, I can now advise to be little careful when using it.

Today one screw mount of casing cracked, and the casing doesn't anymore keep tightly shut from one corner. So it shuts down when you press buttons with too much force. Little bit of tape or superglue will keep it part again, but I hope that it will last few years with that. If it totally breaks up to parts, then I must buy a new, quite expensive calculator again.

So keep an eye on where's your calculator.

Not-So-Lucky phone drop

I just dropped my Nokia E71 from the table. And the screen hit directly to corner of my amplifier. I need to find new covers E71 now. Thankfully the lcd-screen itself didn't broke.

Ecopsychology - nature has positive effects to people

I read one book about ecopsychology (couldn't remember the name), and there was many interesting facts about how nature effects to people. I thought that nature relaxes only certain type of people, but in fact it relaxes and improves concentration. What's amazing, it concerns every person, regardless is she or he "nature-person"!

So, now I have spent hour or two in a forest daily, and it's quite surprising that many negative feelings are gone, mind is more positive and I feel better. I must admit that I have feared dark forests so much before, but now they feel quite... natural. Based on my own experiences, I strongly recommend to visit forests or in nature in a couple of days, and let yourself to see if it feels any different. I'm sure this is good to my physical health, and what's even more important, it does so much good to mental health as well.

New beginning

My life is somewhat... chaos. I don't eat enough, I sleep randomly, I... I will be dead in a while if I don't change something. Or everything. So this is what I did:

Listed what makes me sad, what I don't like from my life.

Phew, quite many things. Next step will be how to list how I can change these things.
I'll post both lists here later.

Let's make Let's play?

I have watched many let's play videos, and it would be interesting to make one myself. I just ordered headset, and it should arrive to me at the end of the month I guess. I just don't like my voice, but nah, I'll do it for test. I won't listen it myself :)

Using GPS with E71

It's funny to walk to somewhere in the woods, then select "drive-to" function from Nokia Maps to back where I started. It's funny feeling that you don't actually think where are you going anymore, do just what you are told.

Making my room more cozy

Here's the deal:
My room has blue walls, some holes and white marks on them. Previous lessees have tried to hang paintings in the walls (which are concrete), so here we have quite ugly looking walls (I'll post pictures later on).

So what to do with them? I have pondered that about an year and now I come up with an idea! I'd like change my room to forest! Lots of plants, forest posters and moss-like-carpet!

That forest poster should be something like 2x4 meters or something like that. I know couple friends who could make posters if I pay them. In their school they have poster-making machines (don't know the proper name). And I have few plants already here. It's interesting to see how my room will look like. But now I'll just cut some forest pages from magazines to starters, so I wouldn't forget this.

Symbian Signed?

I tried to install new application to my Nokia E71, and found out that it isn't Symbian Signed. I didn't quite get at first what was this "Symbian Signed"...

Now I have a guess what's all about:
Nokia doesn't want that every program what has been written to Symbian get shared. It is wanted to keep some kind of quality in programs, so users can download and test them without fear of them breaking their phones or doing something unwanted.

Defragmenting drives in windows does really give more speed

I started using Diskeeper 2009, which is windows defragment software by Diskeeper Corporation. It defragments when there's free resources to use. Even when you surf, it will detect is there enough resources to do some defragmention without computer slowing down. So I installed before I went out, and now come back few hours later, WOW! I started my internet browser, and it instantly pop up. I wondered what on earth just happened? How did it open so fast?

Diskeeper had defragged my drives while I was out, and defragmention really sped up everything. Everything just works faster and smoother. I recommend to defrag your drives if there's some time when done. In windows XP you can defrag your drives by:

1. press [WINDOWS-KEY] + R

2. (run box opens) write compmgmt.msc and press enter

3. (computer management opens) click Disk Defragmenter

(3.1 optional) For example choose your C: drive and click "Analyze" Depending of how badly files are defragmented, windows will give you recommendation what to do.

4. Choose defragment.

Defragmention can be stopped at any time, and it will take some hours to complete if there's hasn't been defragment operation done lately. Default windows XP defragmention will slow down your computer when operating though, depending how fast your PC is.

Bottom line: DEFRAGMENT ALL YOUR DRIVES NOW

Nokia E71 breathing light

I was quite confused how Nokia E71 breathing light works. The light "hoovers" or "breaths" (fades in, fades out slowly) when phone is on. At first I thought it would just hoover when there's a unread message or a missed call. But it actually breaths all the time.

But it was relief when I found out that the breathing light shows up different when missed action hasn't been check out. The light turns in blinking mode, it flashes light every ~2-3 seconds. I trusted you E71, and you won't let me down :)

Left 4 Dead quick review

Just played Left 4 Dead, source engine -based multilayer game on my PC. It has something new to fps-concept, you can play as zombies too :o There's option to play versus mode, so the players divide in two teams randomly. So here's quick review for Left 4 Dead.

The survivors (human team, usually 4-8 players) must reach safe house at end of the map. The infected must prevent this by attacking them. In the map there's lots of NPC -zombies which attack to survivors when they come close. The NPC zombies die after taking bullet or two, and they don't make much damage. But in large hordes they are dangerous and can slow down movement significantly.

Survivors get more ammo, better weapons, pipe bombs, health packs etc. along the way to safe house. The infected team (4-8 players) get one of the three characters: Boomer, hunter, smoker. Boomer can vomit (shoot) players from small range. Vomit makes them view messy and attacks horde to them. Hunter can leap huge distances and when leaped to survivor, she/he will immobilize because hunter begins to rip his chest off. Survivor will be dead if some other survivor doesn't help. Smoker shoots his tongue to far away from him. If the tongue hits survivor, smoker will pull tongue back in and survivor too. You can imagine that survivor will be in great trouble if smoker gets him near the window and starts pulling him out of it. There's also tank, what usually spawns 1-2/map. Tank is basically very strong and lasts huge amount of hits. Teamwork is necessary to take tank down.

Maps are quite large, but there's only 4 campaigns, all campaigns include 5 maps. You'll get familiar with the maps quite fast, what is a shame. But it offers quite nice team play effect, and it's fun to play irregularly.

Recommended.

Why Nokia E71?

Well, yeah I decided to buy Nokia E71. Why?

My criteria were:
Wlan
Qwerty -keys
Somewhat large display
~ 200 euros in budget
Warranty at least for 3 months

Other phones witch I was considering were Iphone 2G, Nokia E62, and HTC. HTC phones were too expensive and to Iphone I wouldn't have had any warranty at all. New Nokia E62 would have been ~250 euros. It just about the maximum what I pay. It's basically the same phone than E71, but some things left off. I found an offer from N71 with 210 euros. So why E71?

Well I got 1 year warranty at it, and E71 has so many things that could be usable some day, or I'll miss they doesn't exist (specifications E62 vs E71 here). New E71 would have been something like 360 euros. With so much cheaper price and just everything I might need added, of course I took E71.

Best applications to symbian phones

I recently bought Nokia N -series phone, N71. It seemed to be what I was looking for, wlan-connection, somewhat large screen and qwerty -keyboard (touchscreen would have been OK too). And now I got Knight Rider ring tone, which I have been dreaming for years, WOHOO!

So, what are the best applications to symbian phones, or in this case, best software applications to Nokia E71 (S60v3)?

Here's list of them:
Handy Shell
Handy Calendar
Handy Shopper
Handy Profiles
Best Timer
GPSed
Opera Mini

The Handy -software is made by Epocware, the company behind Nokia Communicator (S80) OS and development. Because of cutting expenses, the S80 OS is not further developed. Well, apparently these guys know how things should be done in smart-phones, so nowadays they make software for them.

Handy shell is a program what basically changes the main screen of the phone. In my E71 the basic view contains clock, some basic information about battery levels etc. and list of some applications. Handy shell gives you nicely customized main screen, what just have almost everything you need. It adds date, next alarm time, common used applications behind one keystroke, applications and settings to main screen and next calendar note. Now you can see next thing in your calendar without opening calendar! There's one thing that you won't get to Handy Shell, the To-Do list in main screen. It's quite shame. But it just takes one key press to be back in your normal main view, so I can stand it.

So, Handy Calendar. It has two things what really help you. In week view, calendar shows in small blue bars how much of your day has been booked already. The other thing is that when you make calendar appointment you can repeat it indefinitely (to year 2100). In basic E71 calendar these options were not available.

Handy Shopper! Make a shopping list. Enter product (there's many already written). Choose amount and enter all products and amounts. It's really quick. When shopping, you can mark products bought just by clicking. And afterward there's option to use the same shopping list again, or edit it or just make new one. It's really handy if paper and pen is too complicated or if you don't just remember everything.

Handy Profiles, just really useful application. Best part of this program is really timed profiles (what were included in earlier Nokia phones...) and profiles based on gps -coordinates. So you can time that your phone will be in silent mode whole time when you work, and automatically changes back to general when you exit by timing. Or easier, when phone is nearby job, it changes to silent, and when it exits, it turns back on general. Really superb application.

Best Timer is software by smartphoneware. It is set of eggtimers. Yeah, egg timers. Make for example an egg timer for dishing machine, and you'll know exactly how much time you have before you can eat from clean plates again. Of course it's possible to run simultaneously multiple timers.

GPSed is software for recording routes with gps navigation. What's the idea? Well, I use it when I just randomly take walk somewhere I haven't been before, and later on I can check where I have been. It's fun! And costs nothing, it's free.

Opera Mini. In my opinion N71 have good web browser. But Opera Mini has better control on surfing, it's easier to click links & navigate and you'll see the big picture of the site when it opens. It doesn't play flash though and N71 stores and detects more usernames/passwords than Opera Mini. But for basic surfing Opera Mini offers more flow.

I add more software when found or recommend. But for now, these should get you quite far if you have symbian S60v3 or S60v5 phone! : )

Metal or trance person?

I have heard that it's common to person like trance or metal, talking about music styles. But it's rare to really like both styles. I personally prefer trance, but there's very few metal songs witch I like. But the metal songs witch I like aren't so hard, they are kind of power metal and not so dark. I just found the first track witch has very fast bass drum and what sounds good to me. Maybe this song opens the darkest metal to me someday?

The track is called Ensiferum - Lady in Black:

Electric potential

Today I realized how I would teach battery witch contains electric potential, to full class of students, for example.

Battery has plus and minus leads. In the minus leads, there's open door with huge vacuum cleaner in it.

In the positive lead there's bunch of people trying to get out of door, the monster is after them.

Now, when we put something conductive to connect these leads, hallway opens between these doors. Vacuum cleaner sucks the door open from the other end, and lots and lots of people begin to run in the hallway. In the other end vacuum cleaner sucks people inside. It depends from battery type, charge and electric circuit how long will this flood of people last.
